Rich, sometimes dense or exceptionally definite legend comes pretty standard in epic and high fantasy, which I will quite often peruse (and compose). D:DB is comparably vicious as you can anticipate from any anime, yet it fit the story well. Also yes, a great deal of the story feels recognizable because it uses standard fantasy tropes, however, it uses them well.

The world, the characters, the liveliness. The invoker. Davion as such an affable, cool person. The dragons! The fight among Solemeni and Terrablade. The design and craftsmanship. Obviously all from someone that has no involvement in all that came. Told an engaging, unique story, according to the perspective of different characters, building and developing every individual person and the world.
