Nicola Walker may have said goodbye to DCI Cassie Stuart at Unforgotten, but it appears her days of criminalization are still far from being over. And she is the mysterious detective Annika Strandhed in the upcoming procedural drama Annika that premieres in Alibi in the coming week. But it’s not cold cases that she’s looking into at the moment, but murders by the sea as the chief of a specialized Marine Homicide Unit somewhere in Scotland.

In the first scene, Annika introduces herself directly to the audience through an ode in the novel Moby Dick – a source that she reverts to several moments throughout the show. Captain Ahab is a year-long hunt for Moby Dick and it’s a tough year to say the least Annika says, before going on to give an extensive review of the story. It’s an awful adventure, she concludes. Everybody is in a state of panic and no one knows if the election is dead or not. One thing I do know is? The big white pick definitely did.

The tough policeman Annika Strandhed is currently transferred to Glasgow to head the team that investigates marine crimes. This means that murders are occurring at sea, or connected to lakes or watercourses. The unit is relatively new and is not fully operational and, in addition to the task as a one-parent Annika (who is soon beginning to regret not having completed the training for leadership she was advised to attend) has her generally unhappy teenage daughter Morgan ( Silvie Furneaux ) to deal with.
