The series, while gorgeously designed and featuring characters who are easy to connect with, creates the impression of a place that, while gorgeous, seems like nobody has ever lived in it for even a single day.

The series flits between past and present with Eleanor’s ethereal narration uncovering the past she had thought of burying for eternity. But, Black Cake ‘s contemporary material is disappointingly ineffective. There are glimpses of an intimate connection between Byron as well as Benny. The story is set throughout Jamaica, Rome, Scotland, England, and Southern California.
