Shudder releases a new poster as well as a trailer to The South African horror Good Madam. Written by Jenna Cato Bass, the film follows Tsidi (Chumisa Cosa), one of the women who is terrorized by a sinister ghost when she is forced to relocate with her mother, who is estranged from her. She serves as a caretaker for a white “Madam” in a well-off Cape Town suburb.

Good Madam Plot:

A frightful thrill ride about Tsidi, who is compelled to move in with her alienated mother, a live-in homegrown laborer really focusing fanatically on her mental white ‘Lady’ in the rich Cape Town rural areas. Yet, as Tsidi attempts to recuperate her family, the ‘ghost’ of ‘Lady’ starts to mix.

“Don’t ever go in Madam’s room.” Shudder has unveiled its authentic US trailer to Good Madam, a thriller made in South Africa that originally premiered at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival last fall. After screening at various festivals such as Fantastic Fest & AFI Fest, Shudder will be streaming the film in July. Remains of the apartheid-era domestic service face the legacy of land theft by colonial settlers within South African auteur Jenna Cato Bass’s frightful horror satire.

Tsidi is a single mother who and a single mother, is forced to stay with her mother who is estranged from her Mavis who is an in-home domestic worker who cares constantly for her white catatonic “Madam”. As Tsidi is trying to restore her family the specter of a sinister ghost is stirring. It stars Chumisa Cosa in the role of Tsidi as well as Nosipho Mtebe Kamvalethu Jonas Raziya Sanda Shandu Khanyiso Kenqa, Chris Gxalaba, Sizwe Ginger Lubengu as well as Siya Sikawuti. Reviewers describe the film is “a masterclass in how horror can speak to race and inequality,” in which slavery is “a terrifying, powerful & unrelentingly enduring mode of postcolonial possession”.
