The Native American wealth quickly attracted white traders who played games with the Osage, extorted and stole as much Osage money as they could, before turning to murder. The authors of the script which is based on the bestseller book written by David Grann, are Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese.

Around the turn of the twentieth century, the oil industry brought prosperity to the Osage nation, who became one of the wealthiest people on earth in a matter of days. The riches of the Osage Native Americans immediately attracted whites. The trailer also features De Niro as William Hale the wealthy rancher believed to be involved with the murders.

A string of murders occurred in the region in which white Americans were affluent to enjoy and even monetize this wealth The FBI that was employing primitive methods at the time, started investigating the murders. In the midst of these crimes the paths of real love and an unimaginable betrayal cross paths.
