Following the loss of her spouse, Police Investigator Maria Wern moves to the beautiful Swedish island Gotland along with two of her children in order to begin from scratch.

In the midst of raising two children as a single parent and still grieving the loss of her husband, Maria manages to sustain her female perspective and attitude to life in a brutal and male-dominated world.
