The film follows brothers who are estranged Cal (Owen Teague) and Erin ( Haley Lu Richardson) who return to the sprawling farm they had a connection with and a desire to confront an incredibly difficult family history in the background of Montana landscape. What happens to their untrustworthy, sick father and a beloved horse are amidst the duo’s efforts to restore their familial bond while trying to keep their relationship on track.
Richardson’s character is unwilling to let go of her beloved horse and decides to transport the horse across Montana and bring it to New York. As the trailer advances, more shocking details regarding her family’s past gradually surface. Even though she would like to go yet again, Cal begs her to remain for a while longer at her own. Later, it is revealed that Cal intends to sell his family’s ranch and use the proceeds to pay for medical expenses for his father. He then informs Erin that he is planning to give up an old horse called Mr. T. Refusing to let the horse go to waste, Erin tells Cal that she will take Mr. T back home along with she and take him back in New York.
