Mother, Couch plays with the structure of the symmetry of a Wes Anderson film, as the stunning production design is the opulent reminder that “everything has to go’, even Mother or David’s sense of sanity it appears. As Bella gets closer to David her youthful charm is transformed into a surrogate parental role.

Burstyn’s performance after her some of her weaker roles in the past will remind audiences the reason she’s one of the Hollywood legend. A monologue in the middle of the film is one of the best performances and the actress spouts insults as McGregor effortlessly cows.

Russell is able to convey any emotion in a single glance of his head and as Bella is a star, she shines in an unexpected way following her appearance on Bones and All. And Boyle is an Twin Peaks alum, is perfectly portrayed in a comical part as the chain-smoking sister who wants to get out of the way and not care about the latest drama her mother is causing.
