The actors, filmmakers, and guests had dinner and a one-on-one discussion, which was followed by introductory remarks by IndieWire Editor-in-Chief Dana Harries-Bridson. The next event is when Lathan returns to work on cameras for Peacock’s special film “Best Man: The Final Chapters.” Although Lathan has said that she’s unlikely to be a part of a film she’s directed, she did say that it’s possible to change.

Inspired by the legacy of her father who was a local rap icon whose career and life were interrupted by violence from gangs, Bri will do everything in order to hold her family unit and make a name for herself in the competitive industry of Hip Hop. The film is also her debut as a director for the Emmy-winning actress who is co-starring on the screen. In contrast “On the Come Up” is a story about the story of a young woman who is caught in the shady world of the music industry.

The film was directed by Sanaa Lathan. It is inspired by the top bestseller novel by Angie Thomas. This script is written by Kay Oyegun. The plot in On the Come Up follows Bri the brilliant female rapper who is 16 years old, performed by newcomer Jamila C. Gray. Thomas, George Tillman, Jr., Robert Teitel, Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, Isaac Klausner, and Timothy M. Bourne are making the film, together with John Fischer serving as executive producer.
