Zadi was able to come out of his shell and offered the same development of character to Stephane who continues to tell youngsters around him to be more than what they should be. He encourages them to strive to achieve greater things. When the moment comes to the shove Stephane sets his sights on the presidency and makes a decision to do so knowing there’s no chance he will win. But he still does it since he doesn’t wish to be held back any longer.
With the character in “Represent,” Zadi was trying to convey an encouraging message to the public that they shouldn’t restrict their own self-worth based on what perceptions other people’s perceptions of their appearance. Noting the lack of role models for black people across different fields in his growing up, Zadi said that it was not seeing someone like his character on television that made him choose fields with black roles models, such as football or rap.
