Summer, 1962. Vivien Epstein, a young 22-year-old Jewish hairdresser, leaves her Manchester home for London, shortly after her father’s death. She plans to make a new life for herself and find Jack Morris, with whom she had a brief but passionate love affair in Manchester but suddenly returns to her London home. But the only address he has leads him to an impasse.

Inspired by true events, Ridley Road stars newcomer Agnes O’Casey as Vivien Epstein, a young Jewish hairdresser who fits perfectly into London’s mod scene, as she secretly infiltrates Britain’s neo-Nazi hierarchy on behalf of Jewish anti-fascists, Rory Kinnear as Colin Jordan, the real-life leader of Britain’s post-World War II Nazi movement, and Tom Varey as Jack, Vivien’s true love.

Ridley Road explores a relatively unknown chapter in London history. Based on Jo Bloom’s first novel of the same name, it tells the fictional story of young Jewish woman Vivien Epstein, played by television newcomer Agnes O’Casey (also known as Aggi O’Casey), who faced prejudice in Sixties London. All episodes will be released as a box set on BBC iPlayer. While it’s showing on PBS in the US we’ll update with the US release date in due course.
