Self-confessed local history enthusiast Martin Stone is an unassuming family man. The husband of Anne and father of Laura and Josh and Josh, he owns a small, precise engineering firm located in rural Somerset.
Since Josh disabled and requiring permanent residential treatment, not to mention Laura’s wedding to Ashley which will further burden the family’s financial situation, Martin and Anne work tirelessly to make it by.So the moment Martin as well as Ashley decide to go on a metal-detecting expedition in the beautiful fields of the nearby farm, in an effort to strengthen their relationship and discover an undiscovered cache of Saxon treasure that is worth millions of pounds, they face an issue.
Should they declare the treasure and declare it as they are legally required to or ask the help of Rocky Ashley’s former friend from prison to make it a private sale. Could this be the opportunity Martin has been wishing for to become a genuine historian and the curator of the past or is it the result of a lifetime of putting in the effort for no rewards?
Did fate hand him a winning hand to gain a foothold in the world? Wheeler dealer Ashley is keen to keep the winnings for themselves however straight the arrow Martin is likely to require some convincing.
Without a speed-awareness course to his name, going anywhere close to the wrong side or the laws is a step far from his comfort zone. But the business partner of his disappearing, and a significant portion of his company’s accounts putting him under increasing pressures on his finances, can Martin keep his morals in check or will his circumstances lead him to a dark road?
