Written and directed by JT Rogers, the show is loosely based on American journalist Jake Adelstein’s documentary about the police force in Tokyo.

Filmed in the location of the Japanese capital city, the film is told through the eyes of Adelstein (Ansel Elgort) as he descends daily into the city’s neon-soaked underground in the latter part of the 1990s, in which no one and nothing is really who or what they appear to be.

The action-thriller series follows the adventures of Jake Adelstein, an American journalist who has moved from Missouri to Tokyo from Missouri hoping to report about the nation’s crimes. As Adelstein begins to rise up the ranks and discover the corruption that is a part of the Japanese underground, he finds himself immersed further in the mystery, but not having any idea who to trust.
