IFC Films has unveiled the first trailer for Observer which is a sly Hitchcockian psychological thriller that marks the debut feature film of the talented filmmaker Chloe Okuno. It premiered recently during the 2022 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews and is showing in this year’s SXSW Film Festival in the moment. The film’s premiere date is June, in select theaters this summer.

Check out Okuno take his camera and sneak across the vast hallways of the house that is occupied by Julia (Monroe) as well as the husband of her, Francis (Karl the Glusman). Her camera position with film director Benjamin Kirk Nielsen is spectacular with low angles that make the walls of Julia’s house appear scary without drawing attention to the method.

That’s the way people who are around her seek to persuade her is happening. She gazes out of the huge window of her huge apartment and sees everything happening as usual in the opposite building, with the exception of one room where there seems to be a figure looking at her. The conclusion feels a bit too fast, but it’s a good one and leaves “Watcher” with the impression of a fast dark thriller that’s certainly (sorry) worthwhile to watch.
