Brett Smith’s directorial debut is in a period when it appears Hollywood has exhausted films about slavery and war. Through the screenplay he wrote, he seeks to look at the time through an alternate lens and perspective giving the mantle of the hero to the slave, and apathy towards the black soldier. William’s viewpoint is at the heart of the main message of Smith’s film, that life can be as easy as making a decision.

Freedom’s Path Plot:

When a soldier withdraws from battle, he discovers the real cost of war via the eyes of a young black man who teaches him about the real value of freedom.

Directed and written by Brett Smith, and set for release in theaters through Xenon Pictures, Freedom Walk concentrates on autonomous and free African Americans who lived within the South during the Civil War and tells the tale of the young white Union soldier. The platform will launch the initiative with an invitation to HBCU students faculty, alumni, faculty, and others in the community to watch screenings across the nation.
