Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are estranged friends who come together to get revenge on the self-centered widower of their deceased best friend. Through the course of the film, Fonda’s character is brought back with her beloved love as each woman is able to be at peace with their past and each other. The two women have the ability to create an enthralling female-led comedy and this one appears to be a great one.

Onward was written and directed by Oscar-nominated director Paul Weitz, who previously collaborated alongside Tomlin on the road-trip comedy film Grandma. On the way the character of Fonda is brought back to her wonderful love as each woman tries to come to terms with the past, and also with one another. Then, on to the Toronto International Film Festival, which saw the pair successful in their dramatic and comedic sequences. There’s certainly a hint to Grace or Frankie in their relationship.
