This is a documentary we made in Colombia with an incredible team. What I think of for everyone is an immense appreciation for being a part of this project and for guiding me to become a bit more proficient at making a film and a talk story. Quicksand releases in Shudder on 23rd June 2023.

The film in English was filmed entirely in Bogota, Colombia, and follows the story of an American couple at the brink of divorce. They visit Colombia for a business conference. Making Quicksand was a thrilling and challenging endeavor. The film was directed by Andres Beltran, the film was based on an original screenplay from Matt Pitts. The film is also available through AMC+ where available (U.S., CA, ANZ).

The couple is trapped in a pit filled with fasts and during a hike through the forest of rain and the couple battles to survive while fighting nature’s elements in the forest in the face of threats from a deadly snake. Incapable of moving, it’s a battle for survival as they face the forces of the forest and the threat of a snake that is poisonous in order to escape. The weather conditions were brutal for the crew and actors.

Quicksand Plot:

A couple that is close to divorced who are trapped in the sand of the rainforest of Colombia. They must fight against the elements that make up the forest and cooperate to get through.

Beltran made a statement in the release. “We made the film in a frozen jungle in the mountains of Colombia.” Even with the difficult conditions for the actors as well as the crew members, we continued to enjoy the process as we wanted to convey the story in the most authentic way possible.” About an entire year back, the team were informed that production was advancing on a survival thriller titled Quicksand.
