Its played very straight in respect that the relationship between puppets and humans is somehow believable, well, within the context of the movie.
A Muppet film seriously but the so called professional film critics really do need to stop taking themselves so seriously, it had a decent plot line, flowed nicely, had good dialogue and was well acted. No Oscar winner for sure but we enjoyed it.
The synopsis was a great idea. Roger Rabbit had the same format with cartoons. The creative was all there, the writing was very thick on blue humour and pushed a harsh button on life long Muppet fans and Hollywood.

If it were to be done again I’d hire writers from the Simpsons, Family Guy, or The Conan O’Brien Show who know how to use blue comedy in a proper manner that can relate to young and older adult. The Muppets to a new level. Like “The Dark Crystal” all the components are there, the writing is a very tricky thing.
Definitely not a project daddy Jim would have took on and that’s fine. The puppetry was awesome and you can see the talent his son and his team has. Melissa McCarthy is hilarious as always and something tells me if you’re willing to watch a movie.
Brian henson made this because he grew up watching hilarious puppet antics backstage with dark and adult humour. He wanted to share this with everyone and so made Happytime murders. You’ve never seen muppets behave like this and certainly not for usual young muppet audiences.
